Artistic take on social space
Finally someone thought of a clever and fun solution to break those unsettling moments of awkward silence in a waiting room or while on a date. The ChairStoolBench, as part of a series designed by Yvonne Fehling and Jennie Peiz, brings people closer to each other to share a casual and unconstraint conversation. As the name already suggests, the combination of chair, stool and bench gives us a foretaste of furniture designs to come that may be even more revolutionary in their ability to break down social-space barriers. Meanwhile, check the designer's info page for all existing models - we believe that they can breathe new life into any public space or magisterial, formal institution.
Meeting traveler's desire
According to the motto "stop if you must, but don't hang around", many travelers don't like to stop at a rest stop and take a long break. Especially after dark, as some rest areas have the reputation of being unsafe and unclean, not to mention that there is no real escaping from the whooshing of heavy-duty Mack trucks and buses, with the one exception of Texas' newest highway rest stops.
In all my years of driving the Autobahn and being dragged around in a vehicle, I have never seen anything like the "Guadalupe County Safety Rest Area", on Interstate 10 near San Antonio. The lure of the giant lights at night pulls people in from the road. What appears behind a cluster of trees is a newly built oasis to rest and be enjoyed with one another: this rest stop features a playground, a mini-museum with historical displays and artifacts (no joke), movies and regional trivia, free WiFi, some tourist info and provides air-conditioned restrooms and separate truck/passenger parking. Add to that tens of metres of native Texan landscaping that stretch across and set an idyllic scene for a family picnic.
At MusAfair, we hope to see more rest areas turning into safe, super-sized attractions. They would make roadtrips with family and friends so much more fun!
